New Waterstop System Targets Water Intrusion at Concrete Joints and Penetrations

W. R. MEADOWS, a North American manufacturer of waterproofing, sealant, concrete construction, and building envelope materials, has introduced WATERSTOP HPW and WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW for sealing vulnerable joints and penetrations in concrete structures.

The two products are designed to expand when exposed to water, helping create watertight seals in areas where water can migrate through construction joints, pipe penetrations, cable openings, and other transitions.

WATERSTOP HPW is a synthetic rubber swell strip intended for non-moving joints in applications including footings, walls, floors, tunnels, and parking and plaza decks. The company says the material maintains its shape through repeated wet-dry cycles and can withstand water pressures up to 87 psi.

WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW is a one-component polyurethane sealant that can swell up to 500% when exposed to water. It can be applied around irregular details, cracks, voids, pipe penetrations, and cable wall inlets and adheres to concrete, metal, and PVC.

For contractors, the two products can be combined when surface conditions make installation more difficult. The liquid material can fill small depressions and irregularities while also serving as an adhesive for the WATERSTOP HPW strip, helping create more continuous contact with rough concrete surfaces.

Donnie Kruger, Product Manager, Building Envelope, for W. R. MEADOWS, said the paired system is intended to give contractors practical options for addressing both joint geometry and surface conditions that can affect waterproofing performance.
