New Avery Dennison Program Lets Converters Add RFID Without New Inlay Equipment

Avery Dennison, a global materials science and digital identification solutions company, has introduced AD Fusion, a program designed to help label and packaging converters add RFID capabilities without investing in specialized inlay insertion equipment.

The program provides custom slit rolls with RFID inlays already embedded using Avery Dennison’s SmartFace™ technology. According to the company, the materials arrive ready to print and convert within existing production workflows.

For converters, the approach is intended to reduce one of the primary barriers to entering the smart label market: the need for dedicated equipment and production lines for RFID inlay insertion. Avery Dennison stated that AD Fusion can be used without new machinery or additional operator training.

The ultra-thin embedded inlays are designed to maintain the look and performance of standard labels while adding RFID functionality. This could allow converters to introduce smart label offerings using existing presses and facilities or expand RFID production more easily across multiple locations.

Abby Monnot, Vice President of Marketing at Avery Dennison, said the program is intended to help converters adopt RFID more quickly and compete in markets where demand for connected labels is increasing.

The program is aimed at both converters entering RFID production for the first time and companies looking to expand or streamline existing smart label capabilities.
