New 20 Mil Vapor Barrier Aims to Improve Moisture Control Under Concrete Slabs
W. R. MEADOWS has introduced PERMINATOR 20 MIL, a new underslab vapor barrier intended for use in concrete construction where moisture control is a key concern.
According to the company, the product is designed to reduce the transmission of moisture and water vapor through concrete slabs, helping protect flooring systems and interior building materials from moisture-related damage. Such issues can include flooring failures, mold growth, and indoor environmental concerns.
W. R. MEADOWS stated that the new 20 mil version expands its existing PERMINATOR product line by offering an option with greater puncture resistance and durability for projects exposed to more demanding construction conditions.
The company also reports that the barrier is intended to help reduce fungus, mildew, and mold potential by limiting slab moisture migration. In addition, W. R. MEADOWS said the product can help resist methane migration and reduce radon intrusion in certain applications.
Donnie Kruger, Product Manager, Building Envelope for W. R. MEADOWS, said moisture control beneath slabs is an important factor in maintaining long-term flooring and building interior performance.
According to the company, PERMINATOR 20 MIL is installed over prepared soil or compacted fill, with overlapped seams sealed to form a continuous vapor barrier. W. R. MEADOWS also stated that the product can help slabs maintain moisture emission and relative humidity levels within limits specified by flooring manufacturers, which may support flooring performance over time.
The product is available through authorized distributors in the United States.
