Henkel Updates Packaging Adhesive with Lower Cradle-to-Gate Carbon Footprint
Henkel Adhesive Technologies has announced that Technomelt Supra 130 Cool, a hot-melt adhesive used in carton, tray, and folding box applications, is now produced with a minimum 20% reduction in cradle-to-gate carbon emissions.
According to the company, the adhesive’s formulation has not changed, meaning customers can continue using the product without adjusting application methods or supply arrangements. Henkel stated that the emissions reduction was achieved through supplier partnerships focused on replacing fossil-based resources with renewable alternatives and incorporating more energy-efficient production technologies.
The company reported that the updated sourcing approach has been implemented across all relevant European production sites, so customers using the product in food and non-food packaging applications will receive the lower-emission version as part of normal supply.
Kathrin Hein, Vice President Consumer Goods EIMEA at Henkel, said the change is intended to help customers address sustainability targets without affecting bonding performance or operational continuity.
For packaging manufacturers and converters, the update may offer an opportunity to lower the carbon footprint associated with adhesive use while maintaining existing packaging line processes, according to the company.
