Bio-Based Butyl Acrylate Initiative Targets Lower-Carbon Raw Materials Supply
Synthomer has entered into a partnership with Godavari Biorefineries Limited to commercialize bio-based butyl acrylate, offering an alternative to conventional fossil-derived monomers used in polymer production.
According to the companies, the material will be produced using bio-based butanol derived from renewable feedstocks at GBL’s facilities. Butyl acrylate is a key building block in a range of products, including adhesives, coatings, sealants, and elastomers.
Synthomer stated that the collaboration is intended to support customers seeking lower-carbon raw materials while maintaining compatibility with existing manufacturing processes. Chris Brown, Vice President of ESG at Synthomer, said the initiative is designed to help customers address emissions targets and sustainability objectives.
Godavari Biorefineries reported that its integrated biorefinery capabilities enable production of bio-based chemicals intended to reduce reliance on fossil resources. Chairman and Managing Director Samir Somaiya said the partnership aims to advance adoption of renewable feedstocks across the chemical value chain.
For manufacturers, the availability of bio-based monomers may expand options for incorporating renewable content into finished products while aligning with evolving regulatory and sustainability requirements, according to the companies.
