Concrete Finishing Aid Targets Workability Challenges in Lower-Carbon Mix Designs
W. R. MEADOWS, a North American manufacturer of concrete construction and building envelope materials, has introduced FINISH-ASSIST PRO™, a colloidal silica-based finishing and troweling aid developed for traditional and lower-carbon concrete mixes.
According to the company, the product is intended to help contractors manage changes in fresh concrete behavior associated with portland limestone cement, supplementary cementitious materials, alternative SCMs, and emerging binder technologies. These mix designs may present challenges such as reduced surface workability, greater trowel drag, and shorter finishing windows.
W. R. MEADOWS stated that FINISH-ASSIST PRO improves surface lubricity and helps extend workability without adding water to the concrete. The company also reported that the product may reduce rapid surface moisture loss during hot, dry, or windy conditions and can be used as an evaporation reducer.
For contractors and finishing crews, the product is intended to support smoother and more uniform surfaces while fitting into existing placement and curing practices. W. R. MEADOWS identified potential uses in interior and exterior flatwork, decorative concrete, hard-troweled floors, tilt-up construction, and overlays.

The company also stated that FINISH-ASSIST PRO can be used as part of its Comprehensive Concrete Placement & Curing System alongside evaporation retardants and compatible curing products.
