Henkel Launches Flame-Resistant Sealant for Railcar Interior and Exterior Applications
Henkel has launched Teroson MS 949 FR, a flame-resistant adhesive sealant designed for sealing applications in railcar interiors and exteriors.
According to the company, the material is suitable for use around windows, doors, floor panels, side panels, ceilings, lights, HVAC systems, and compartment interfaces. Henkel stated that the product was developed to meet rail-sector requirements for fire safety, low smoke emissions, and long-term durability.
The company reports that Teroson MS 949 FR meets the EN 45545-2 standard for fire performance in rail applications and does not ignite at oxygen concentrations up to 28%. Henkel also stated that the material offers adhesion to a range of substrates, including glass, metal, reinforced plastic, and painted surfaces.
For manufacturers and maintenance teams, processing efficiency is an important factor. According to Henkel, the sealant forms a skin in about 30 minutes under high-humidity conditions and does not require primer in many applications, which may help simplify application and repair procedures.
Henkel also reported that the one-part SMP-based formulation is free from tin, phthalates, isocyanates, solvents, BPA, and PFAS. The company stated that this composition aligns with efforts to reduce substances of very high concern in rail applications while also supporting worker health and safety considerations.
