New Crusher Backing Compound Targets Safer Handling and Faster Return to Service
ITW Performance Polymers has launched Devcon® Korrobond™ 65 Ultra, a crusher backing compound designed for gyratory and cone crusher operations in mining and aggregate processing.
According to the company, the new two-component epoxy system was formulated to improve handling safety while also supporting faster processing and higher mechanical performance. ITW Performance Polymers stated that the reformulated product no longer carries certain hazard pictograms previously associated with environmental, health, and acute toxicity warnings on its safety data sheet and label.
The company reports that Korrobond 65 Ultra is intended to reinforce crusher liners, reduce vibration, and support equipment durability in high-load operating conditions. ITW Performance Polymers also stated that the material provides compressive strength of 135 ±7 MPa (19,500 ±1000 psi), tensile strength of 41.37 MPa (6,000 psi), and improved impact resistance relative to earlier formulations.
For plant operators, reduced downtime is a key consideration. According to the company, the product has a functional cure time of 4–6 hours, along with flow characteristics intended to support faster mixing and pouring. ITW Performance Polymers added that the formulation has a pot life of 15–20 minutes at 23°C / 73°F and is a 100% solids system containing no solvents.
Alessandro Grazia, Product Manager at ITW Performance Polymers, said the product was developed to combine improved safety, faster application, and stronger backing performance for high-stress crushing environments.
