Henkel Acquisition of ATP Expands Access to Water-Based Specialty Tape Technologies

Henkel has announced an agreement to acquire ATP adhesive systems AG, a Switzerland-based producer of water-based specialty adhesive tapes. According to the companies, the transaction is intended to expand Henkel’s portfolio of bonding technologies available to customers across multiple end markets.

ATP’s product range includes specialty tapes used in automotive, electronics, medical, construction, and graphics applications. The company reports that the majority of its portfolio relies on water-based technologies, which it positions as supporting sustainability objectives and reduced environmental impact.

Following the acquisition, ATP is expected to operate within Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business unit. According to the companies, this integration is intended to support closer alignment between tape-based solutions and other adhesive technologies, enabling a broader range of bonding options for customers.

Daniel Heini, CEO of the ATP Group, said the transaction provides ATP with access to Henkel’s global network and scale, which he noted will support continued development and wider availability of ATP’s specialty tape technologies.

For manufacturers and product developers, the acquisition may result in expanded access to integrated bonding solutions that combine tape and liquid adhesive technologies, according to the companies. The transaction is also expected to support expanded research and development collaboration aimed at addressing evolving application requirements.

The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
